The 28's underbody is designed to minimize damage from grounding while maintaining the proven efficiency and tracking ability of a separated keel and rudder. The top surface of the lead ballast casting slopes downward from front to back. This results in a leading edge on the fin keel of solid lead, just the thing to absorb stress of impacts and groundings. The interior layout shown provides full-size berths for 4, full galley with ice box and sink, enclosed head with sink, and plenty of storage space under the berths. Headroom in the main saloon varies from a generous 6' 6" aft to 6' 3" forward, so even those of you above the norm will find this to be a very livable space. The cockpit has been kept small for safety. Cockpit seats are 6' long with large lockers provided port and starboard. Steering control is provided by an Edson pedestal unit with a 24" wheel. To save costs an optional transom hung rudder and tiller can be substituted. All engine controls and primary winches are within easy reach of the helm. You have your choice of construction materials and methods with this design. The Hoyt-28 can be built of fiberglass/foam sandwich, C-flex or wood/epoxy strip-planking. Indicate your chosen method at time of order and we will provide you with a plan set customized for the selected construction method. Fully lofted offsets and patterns are provided for the keel, rudder, stem and construction molds.
