The smallest member of the K series, this design has all the performance features of the larger boats in the group. K-12's wide beam and comfortable side decks make this boat easy to master and a great choice for entry-level performance sailing. Designed for a crew weight of 180 lbs. this boat is ideal for one adult or two teenagers. Storing easily in a small space and requiring minimal maintenance, boats like the K-12 are very easy to live with. Weight and draft are minimal so launching and retrieval is simple and quick. The aluminum mast is stepped on deck and is easily and quickly rigged by one person. For those who prefer wood the plan set also includes details for building your own optional laminated wooden spars.

Despite its diminutive size, K-12 has a powerful sail plan and all the controls necessary to get the most out of it. This entry-level performance design is an ideal training platform for the aspiring racer or for anyone who just likes to sail fast and efficiently. Construction is of cold-molded wood or wood/strip planking, with marine ply used for bulkheads and decks. If you've never before built a round bilge hull, don't worry. The plan set includes full-size station mold patterns, foil patterns and stem profile offsets so setting up is quick and accurate. While certainly a bit more labor intensive to build than a typical hard chine plywood design, the builder's efforts will be rewarded with a handsome boat that delivers superior performance, efficiency and value.
