This handsome, flat bottom skiff has been especially designed as a first time project for the novice boatbuilder. Prelude’s hull is built stitch and glue fashion from pre-calculated, expanded plywood panels. This is simply the fastest and easiest way we know of to build a plywood boat. The method is almost foolproof and prior woodworking experience is not required.

Prelude's plan set is highly detailed and includes step by step building instructions and detailed supplier and materials listing. All components and methods used in this design are fully detailed and explained. If you can follow instructions and cut to a line, you can complete this project with good results.

While easy to build, this boat still offers a surprising level of performance. The high aspect ratio, laminar flow section rudder and daggerboard foils provide good control and balance with enhanced windward capability. Prelude’s standard masthead sloop rig is easily controlled and, for beginning sailors, provides valuable experience that’s directly applicable to larger boats. The fully decked configuration of this design makes the boat difficult to swamp, and allows the crewman to get his weight outboard for better control in windy conditions. Fore and aft buoyancy compartments are provided to ensure safe sailing, making this design an ideal trainer for sailors of all ages.
